Day 6 - 16th April

Apologies for our lack in posting this yesterday, from this post you will see why we were too tired by the end of the day!
Day 6 was the start of our subject specific activities, we all left at 9:30am and headed our seperate ways.

Textiles:
Today was absolutely chucking down which made transport very slow, our first activity was a screen printing course at the Textiles Centre in Brooklyn which is a create space that provides courses and spaces for artists to rent. We were a little late due to the weather but got straight into it. We were shown possibilities of where screen printing could take us which inspired students for their own designs. We all sat around a large table to design and cut a design that we then printed onto some fabric, it was amazing to see all the wonderful designs that were created in such a short amount of time, it was such a great opportunity to be able to just "make stuff" without any meaning, as in class time students are limited with time, resources and their class work is always towards their project. We also had a tour of the artists spaces and saw all the amazing work being created. The students had so much fun and even Tom Wilkinson got right in there. After the source we took the subway into Time Square where the students had some free shopping time before heading back to the hostel.

Digi Tech:
The DigiTech group started out with a visit at Ghost Robot, a small advertising company based in Brooklyn. We learnt a lot about how advertising contracts are awarded & managed, using a skilled base of freelance contractors.

We then headed back into Manhattan to visit Momaths - a fun hands on maths experience.

So proud of our success with catching 5 trains on different lines today!

Food:

The Food Technology students had their first Baking Bagel making class. Although it was not the traditional method, we had the chance to sit beside ovens and dry ourselves off from the down-pour, as we went from Ea

st to West and East again. We will figure it out soon....sorry team!

The evening:
In the evening we went to the Yankees game which was everything you could ever hope for and more! It was the most amazing experience and the space was enormous. We were sitting at the top and had a great view. It was extremely cold but we were all to excited to notice. We had dinner from the stalls provided there and got souvenir cups! The home run experience was a sight to see, music was playing loud, lights were flashing, everyone was jumping out of their seats. There are no words to describe how awesome it was going to a Yankees game. We did however get a very late night, we arrived back at the hostel after 10 and everyone was knackered from the adventurous day.
